Search giant Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) recently announced it has halted advertisements in student emails. The announcement was posted on the official Google Enterprise Blog.
Google puts more focus on education
Over 30 million students, teachers, and education administrators use Google Apps for Education. The company already turned off advertisements by default in Apps for Education service. Back in 2013, the search company did away with ads from the search feature for kids from kindergarten to twelve years.
Security is also a big thing for Google Apps for Education. The search giant has over 400 full-time engineers to protect user information. It also encrypted HTTPS connection for things like email, even if the user is using a public WiFi connection. Staring on Wednesday, giant Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will enhance the service by removing ‘enable/disable’ toggle feature for ads, and remove ads in student emails. The latter means it cannot use or sell consumer data in Gmail for Apps for Education.
The blog post further elaborates, “Users who have chosen to show AdSense ads on their Google Sites will still have the ability to display those existing ads on their websites. However, it will no longer be possible to edit or add new AdSense ads to existing sites or to new pages. We’re also making similar changes for all our Google Apps customers, including Business, Government and for legacy users of the free version, and we’ll provide an update when the rollout is complete.”
Google will answer questions during chat
The tech company will host a Hangout on Air at 9:00 am Pacific Standard Time tomorrow. This chat session will be held on Google for Education Google+ page. The chat will feature the director of Google for Education Bram Bout, Chief Technology Officer Hank Thiele, and Director of Product Management for Docs/Drive Jonathan Rochelle. In this chat, the aforementioned executives will discuss changes as well as answer questions.
