Have you ever walked by a home or an office building and wondered what those funny looking panels were on the roof?
These odd looking panels popping up all over people’s rooftops, from private residences, to non-profit organizations, are solar panels, thanks to the help of companies such as, SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY). Founded back in 2006, the company has grown rapidly and analysts have taken note of the stock as it has steadily climbed up the charts. These analysts are starting to review the company’s long-term growth and are recommending either HOLD or BUY SCTY.
J.P. Morgan analyst, Paul Costar, recommends HOLD SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) with a $68 price target. It is possible that Paul will revise his estimates, “but with the stock trading above [his] price target, it is believed the upside potential is now equally offset by potential risks and that the stock is appropriately valued.” Paul confirms that he believes, “the firm is doing an excellent job of reducing the cost of finance, expanding market reach and increasing efficiency.” But he is also taking into account the risks, “at this price level some of the exogenous risks come into focus including rising interest rates, competition and growing opposition to distributed solar from utilities.”
Paul might be looking to BUY SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) in the future, but right now he does not feel comfortable recommending anything other than HOLD STCY. “We are keen to add to positions, but only at the right price, we will look for pull-backs as buying opportunities.” Paul has a 0.8% average return over S&P-500 and a 59% success rate of recommended stocks.
On the other hand, analyst Vishal Shah from Deutsche Bank, feels ready to BUY SCTY with a price target of $90. Vishal noted that SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) is, “one of the pioneers in the residential solar leasing market.” And he expects that the company’s “install base to roughly double by the end of 2014.” This amount of growth “could accelerate in the 2015/2016 timeframe.” As of now, Vishal’s BUY SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) recommendation has left him with -1.8% measured performance over S&P-500. Vishal has a -1.9% average return over S&P-500 and has a 46% success rate of recommended stocks.
