Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) announced that it will start updating its Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices with the Lumia Amber software this August.

The smartphone manufacturer said the Lumia Amber was built based on the latest updates developed by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Lumia Amber improves camera functionality

According to Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) the Lumia Amber software update will improve the capabilities of the cameras of its mobile devices including the Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 720, 620, 520, 928, 822, 521, and 810. It also offers new features and apps such as the Nokia Glance Screen with standby clock and better imaging experience. The Lumia devices will have a new FM radio player, and users will experience improvements to the Xbox music, and Internet Explorer browser.

Lumia cameras will have better image processing—the Finnish smartphone manufacturer enhanced the algorithms to improve noise reduction, color reproduction, exposure control, and auto focus of the cameras across its Lumia devices. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) said the owners of Lumia 920 will now be able to control the ISO settings of the camera in their phones from 800 to 3200, which provides a better low light performance.

The owners of Lumia smartphones will now be able to start downloading the Nokia Smart Camera app, which was first integrated in the Nokia Lumia 925. The new camera app is best for taking picture of people and moving objects.

More Nokia updates

With the Nokia Smart Camera app, users will be able to use the different options to improve their pictures such as the Best Shot to find the sharpest images from a series of tem pictures. The Action Shot allows them to combine several shots of people in movement in one action, and the Motion Focus increases the appearance of speed by blurring the background. In addition, Change Faces option allows users to create ideal group shots by choosing their best facial shots from  series of photographs or remove unwanted objects.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) said some other features added to the Lumia smartphones include the flip to silence, double-tap to unlock. In addition, the company also updates the Nokia Here mapping service. Users will now be able to free up storage on their Lumia smartphones easily.

The Lumia Amber software update is already available to the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 in selected countries. All other Lumia devices will receive the software update by the end of September.
