Samsung Galaxy S4 Takes New York – Kind Of

“All the animals come out at night – whores, skunk p@#&ies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, and venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets…,” said Travis Bickle when speaking of the Times Square of old in the 1976 in the film Taxi Driver.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Takes New York - Kind Of

“All the tourists come out at night – theater goers, the morbidly obese, mimes, t-shirt hawkers, ESPN Zone employees, spoiled children, and most recently the Samsung Galaxy S4 teasers,” said Brendan Byrne this morning as he wrote this piece and fondly recalled the danger, street crime, and excitement that were Times Square Pre-Rudy Giuliani’s Disneyfication of the area.

I’m not comparing Samsung’s eagerly awaited Galaxy S4 to the early denizens of Times Square that Bobby DeNiro didn’t love, just the fact that three billboards did indeed come out “at night.” Last night.

Two of the three, one in black and another in white, are now covering a retail location that until last week was advertising its availability for lease. Additionally, this was the location of Microsoft’s retail store before it closed earlier this year.

Now this is pure speculation, but would it be brazenly wrong to guess that Samsung has designs on this building for their “Samsung Unpacked 2013, episode 1?” Not only does this suggest that there will be a (at least) second major launch this year, but if Microsoft represents the recent past is Samsung and their Galaxy S4 suggesting they represent the recent future?

Also, do the colours of the billboards represent the colours that the Galaxy S4 will be released in next week?

Who knows? Well, somebody does but they are keeping it close to the vest unlike the fine engineers at Apple who like to leave their phones in Silicon Valley bars for Gizmodo to acquire.

On a recent official Samsung website we were given…..

“Meet The Next Galaxy @ Times Square, NY” and the hint that, “you don’t want to miss being among the first in the world to get a glimpse of The Next GALAXY.”

Makes me think I might not be far off on this one.

There has been ample speculation and with the release only a week away lets simply look at a composite of what most are certain of through screenshots and leaks

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature a 4.99-inch 1080P Full HD display and will pack a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. The latest leaks appear to confirm a 13MP camera with an AT&T logo suggesting they’ve locked in at least one carrier to start.
