Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s next operating system – Windows 8, which went through three previews (Developer, Consumer and Release), is finally announced to be code complete and the RTM version is now available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers.

For Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Windows 8 is a very important release. This OS comes with significant UI updates that were never seen before. It’s also heavily focused towards the touchscreens and in fact, Microsoft is also offering a separate version of Windows, named Windows RT that is built specially for ARM tablets. The same OS will be used with Microsoft’s Surface tablet.

Some other notable features of Windows 8 are: Internet Explorer 10, new task manager, new Start Screen, Windows Store for apps, cloud integration, Xbox live integration, etc. The Windows Store comes with a variety of apps ranging from $1.49 to $999.99, with free app offerings as well.

But, if you’re not a subscriber, then you will need to wait for Windows 8 to hit the shelves on October 26th, when Windows 8 will be released to retailers. You will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 from XP, Vista, or 7 for the price of $39.99 (downloadable version). If you prefer a packaged, DVD version, that it will cost $69.99. But before jumping to purchase Windows 8, make sure that this new OS is compatible with your machine.
