Initial weekly unemployment claims were a seasonally adjusted 305k for the week ending September 21, the U.S. Department of Labor reports. This is a slight decline from the previous week’s revised reading of 310k and is a very positive reading considering that many were expecting claims to increase due to computer upgrades in the weeks prior. Not seasonally adjusted, initial jobless claims for the week were 254k.
The insured unemployment rate was a seasonally adjusted 2.2% last week. This is an increase from the prior week’s reading of 2.1%, but is still down from the 2.3% reading 3 week ago.
The number of unemployment insurance recipients, or continuing claims, were a seasonally adjusted 2.823 million. This is an increase from the prior week’s revised reading of 2.788 million.
