Initial jobless claims for the week ending August 31 were a seasonally adjusted 323k, the U.S. Department of Labor reports. This is a decrease from the previous week’s revised reading of 332k, and along with the report from the second week of August, are the lowest jobless claims have been since January 2008. Initial jobless claims for the week not seasonally adjusted were 269k.
The insured unemployment rate remained unchanged last week at a seasonally adjusted 2.3%.
The number of unemployment insurance recipients, or continuing claims, was a seasonally adjusted 2.951 million. This is a decrease from the prior week’s revised reading of 2.994 million.
