Here’s What Sony Announced At Its E3 2018 Conference

Updated on

Sony held its PlayStation E3 2018 press briefing in Los Angeles at 6 PM PT on Monday. The company had tried to tone down expectations ahead of the conference by suggesting that it would focus on four major games at its E3 2018 briefing. But it ended up announcing much more than four games at the event. The show itself was a bit odd and stage presentations awkward, but let’s focus on the announcements for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.

The Last of Us Part II

There is still no clue on its release date, but Sony showed off some cool gameplay for The Last of Us Part II developed by Naughty Dog. Twenty-something protagonist Ellie is seen kissing her girlfriend before she finds herself being stalked by a bunch of violent dudes. She kills them in brutal combat. The combat seems so brutal that it’s certainly not for the faint of heart. The second part has the same combination of stealth and direct fighting as its predecessor.

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch has set this samurai action game in the time of the Mongol invasion of Japan. The gameplay trailer shows our hero making his way through the open-world feudal Japan, battling other samurai. The gameplay gives you the Witcher vibes, and the combat looks measured.

Resident Evil 2 remake

This was kind of unexpected. Sony revealed at its E3 2018 briefing that developer Capcom was giving a high-definition, ground-up remake to its classic zombie-fighting title Resident Evil 2. The Resident Evil 2 remake is coming out on January 25, 2019. Fans were long expecting a remake, and Capcom has delivered it.

Death Stranding

Sony offered us an extended look at developer Hideo Kojima’s sci-fi/mystery title Death Stranding. The gameplay trailer hints at a lot of mysteries such as a baby in a jar, a lady in black, and shadow monsters. Hideo Kojima didn’t announce a release date, though. It has the protagonist Porter trekking across a blackened landscape.

Spider-Man

Insomniac Games revealed gameplay from its upcoming title Spider-Man. The game is coming out in September this year. It has a bunch of villains led by Mr. Negative trying to take out the Spider-Man. There are some incredibly cool action sequences. The navigation and combat is also impressive.

Control

Developer Remedy Entertainment’s new game Control looks wild and weird. The gameplay trailer has a woman with insane telekinetic powers. Its style appears to be similar to Remedy’s previous title Quantum Break. The game is set to arrive in 2019, and will be published by 505 Games.

Destiny 2: Forsaken

The Japanese company also released a short trailer for Destiny 2: Forsaken. It is coming out on September 4th. The trailer indicates that Cayde-6 will get shot or killed.

Kingdom Hearts III

Sony’s trailer for the Kingdom Hearts III has Donald, Sora, and Goofy once again diving into the world of Pirates of the Caribbean. The Disney/Square RPG game has a bit of ship combat and a cool CGI Jack Sparrow.

Trover Saves the Universe

This comes from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland. Trover Saves the Universe will be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. The gameplay trailer introduces us to the Bathtub Guy. It is unclear how Trover, a gummy-looking character, is going to save the universe.

God of War

Sony announced that there will be a New Game+ mode in the God of War. It will allow players to restart a game after finishing the main story. The New Game+ mode will allow you to keep the items, experiences, and other aspects in progression. It means you should be able to more easily destroy your Norse enemies with all the unlocks already done.

Deracine

Developed by FromSoftware, it will be exclusive to the PlayStation VR. It appears to be a departure from FromSoftware’s other titles such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls series.

Nioh 2

Team Ninja introduced a sequel to the Nioh title. It will be full of swords, horns, and action.

Sony’s E3 2018 briefing: Conclusion

The Japanese company had tons of stuff in store to showcase at the E3 2018 conference. We are curious about Nioh 2 and Death Stranding. Sony didn’t have any major surprises, but it delivered more than gamers expected. The only other briefing left is that of Nintendo, which begins at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET on Tuesday. The E3 2018 will officially kick off today, giving people a chance to try out these games and interact with developers.
