Just when we all thought that there wouldn’t be anything massive coming up after the Galaxy Note II, Samsung has beat all our expectations again. Samsung has announced the launch of two new Galaxy Mega smartphones.

Samsung Launches 5.8 And 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega Smartphones

These two new phones will be competing with the Galaxy Note II smartphone, also known as phablet, because of its gigantic size compared to normal phones. Samsung said the Mega will be available globally starting in May in Europe. The product availability will vary depending on market. There’s still no official word on pricing as of now. Both these smartphones sport dual core processor which means that they’ll be more affordable than the current phablets.

The newest addition to the GALAXY family balances an optimal viewing experience on a 6.3-inch HD screen, yet is ultra-thin and portable enough to put into a pocket or hold. The GALAXY Mega offers a mix of popular smartphone and tablet features such as an effortless user experience, a split screen, multitasking between video and other app,s and more.

JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Electronics says “We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing, and more. We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers’ varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning GALAXY series.”

Unlike the Galaxy Note, there’s no ‘S Pen’ stylus included. Both devices are rumored to be named Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 sports LTE connectivity and a 1.7GHz dual-core CPU, while the 5.8-incher runs at 1.4GHz on HSPA+21. The 6.3 has a HD resolution screen while the 5.8 comes with QHD TFT screen (no HD screen). The 5.8-inch model offers a 2,600mAh battery, while the 6.3-inch model packs a 3200mAh battery. The 6.3 comes in two flavors – 8GB or 16GB internal memory while the 5.3 comes with only 8GB memory option.

In terms of similarities,  both the devices come with 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.9-megapixel front facing camera. Both phones support MicroSD card memory expansion up to 64GB.

Both the devices run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, as expected from a Samsung device. Apart from that, both phones come with many pre-loaded Samsung apps such as Group Play, Samsung WatchON, Samsung Link, S Translator, S Travel, ChatON and more.

There’s no word yet on the U.S. release of the Galaxy Mega phones. So what do you think of Samsung’s new tablets – the Galaxy Mega? Is it too bulky or has Samsung made a right step? Would you still want a tablet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
