Razer Phone 2 Release Date, Specs, News, And Rumors

Updated on

Razer launched their first flagship at the end of 2017, and as a gaming equipment company their phone was targeted towards gamers. It was the first smartphone to offer a 120Hz refresh rate and performed admirably, but everyone is now looking forward to the production of the Razer Phone 2.

Razer Phone 2 Release Date

Recent rumors suggest that the Razer Phone 2 is already under development, which suggests that we may be able to see it at the end of 2018. A yearly release schedule is normal for smartphone companies, but considering that Razer is just getting their feet wet when it comes to mobile devices, it will be impressive if they manage to significantly improve upon the formula with the Razer Phone 2 within a year.

The original Razer phone was highly-praised due to its top-notch specifications designed for gaming and a high refresh rate – all for a price that was a good deal cheaper than high-end flagships from the likes of Apple and Samsung. Considering that it was their first foray into the mobile arena, the Razer phone was extremely impressive. But will the Razer Phone 2 improve enough on the formula to warrant the upgrade?

Current rumors suggest that we’ll see the phone as early as September 2018, and it’s possible that the phone will be announced during IFA which takes place between August 31st and September 5th of this year.

Razer Phone 2 Price

The original Razer Phone cost somewhere in the range of $700-$800 dollars based on where you bought it, which gave it high-end specifications that actually seemed to outclass phones like the iPhone X at a lower price point. While that price range isn’t a mid-range phone by any stretch, Razer would be best suited to keep their price as close to what we saw with the original phone as possible.

With that said, new technology is expensive so it’s possible that the phone will raise in price slightly. Bringing it as high as the iPhone X would be a major mistake, however, considering that the Razer Phone 2 doesn’t have nearly the same name recognition as the iPhone line enjoys.

Razer Phone 2 Specifications

We don’t know too much about what’s coming with the Razer Phone 2 in terms of specifications, but we do expect that we’ll see some camera improvements as that was a notable weak spot in the original camera phone. Outside of that, expect to see the impressive refresh rate return once again alongside top-of-the-line power that competes with or outclasses pretty much every other high-end device on the market.

It’s also possible that we’ll see the release of Project Linda alongside the Razer Phone 2. This project seems to be an external setup that leverages the power of the Razer Phone in order to turn it into a pseudo-laptop experience. This would definitely establish the device as a phone for gamers, though it could potentially take away from the portability that makes mobile gaming so great.
