As if Pokemon Go wasn’t already distracting you enough, there is a non-gaming app called Prisma that everyone is going crazy about. Though Prisma describes itself just as an “editor for Instagram,” Instagram users as well as non-users are loving it for its art-inspired, stylistic filters. It has a variety of filters based on the famous paintings of legends like Van Gosh, Picasso, Piet Mondrian, and Edvard Munch.

Prisma app for Android to be available ‘later this month’

Unfortunately, the app is currently available only for iOS devices. When will Prisma be available for Android users? Russian developers of the app told that the Android version will be launched “later this month.” It is still in the works. The developers added that they will soon launch Prisma Videos in the app. Though the test clip of Prisma Video that TNW received already looks decent, it will be further polished before it’s added to the app.

Though there are plenty of apps and Photoshop filters that can turn your photos into a painting, Prisma takes it to a whole new level. It uses a combination of neural networks and artificial intelligence to turn your photos into artworks. It does not simply put a filter on your picture. Instead, the app scans the data and applies the paintings and style in an impressive way. The end results with the Prisma app look better than Photoshop filters.

It will be worth the wait

What’s even more impressive about Prisma is the ease of use. When you open the app, the upper half of the interface is a viewfinder that shows whatever you are photographing, with a button to capture the frame. Users can also open and edit already saved photos using a small thumbnail in the bottom right. Once you have applied a filter to your image, you can swipe to the left to reduce the intensity of the filter or to the right to increase it. And they you can save it.

The app is free to download and install. It works only on the iOS 8 or above. Android users may have to wait up to 18 days for Prisma, but it will be worth it.
