Talisman Energy Soared as Repsol Confirms Potential Bid

Talisman Energy Inc. (NYSE:TLM) soared +20.4% today after Repsol confirmed a potential bid for the oil and gas company. In Carl Icahn’s portfolio since the third quarter of last year and among Ray Dalio’s holdings since Q2 2010, TLM is down more than -55% YTD. However, it’s climbed +26.16% over the past week.

Opko Health Inc. (NYSE:OPK) gained +7.95% on news of an agreement with Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) to develop and commercialize its growth hormone product hGH-CTP. The George Soros holding is up +7.48% over the past month.

NovaGold Resources Inc. (NYSEMKT:NG) climbed +6.95% early in the day this Monday and is up +13.78% YTD. Short interest in the company dipped significantly in November, and the stock has gained +3.96% in the past week. John Paulson is a long-time NG stakeholder, and George Soros initiated a stake in the company in Q3.

Unwired Planet Inc. Takes a Blow on Google Patent Suit

Unwired Planet Inc (NASDAQ:UPIP) tumbled -39.28% after commenting on a claim construction order in a patent case against Google. “Our initial perception is that these results are disappointingly negative and will materially impact our case,” said Phil Vachon, chairman of the board at Unwired Planet. The intellectual property licensing company has been in George Soros’ portfolio since Q2 2012 and is down -41.17% YTD.

Linn Energy LLC (NASDAQ:LINE) fell -15.32%, putting its three-month loss at -66.11% and hitting a new 52-week low. The oil and gas company is a long-time Leon Cooperman holding.

Specialty pharmaceutical company BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (NASDAQ:BDSI) hit midday down -12.08%. News broke today that company director Samuel Sears sold 7,853 BDSI shares last week. In Julian Robertson’s portfolio since Q4 2013, BioDelivery Sciences is up +107.98% in 2014.
