Unlike Apple, OnePlus hates the idea of maintaining secrecy around its upcoming devices until the official unveiling. Most of the features and design elements get leaked by well-connected tipsters anyway. OnePlus has been teasing the features of its upcoming OnePlus 7T series for weeks. Now the company’s CEO Pete Lau has shared the OnePlus 7T design with fans.
Pete Lau talks about OnePlus 7T
Lau took to the official OnePlus forum to talk about the design language of the upcoming model, sharing some renders of the phone. The new OnePlus 7T series is coming just months after the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, which have been flying off the shelves since launch.
The OnePlus 7T series is scheduled to launch in India and North America on September 26. The European launch will take place a couple of weeks later on October 10. Lau wrote in the OnePlus forum that the Chinese company “completely reimagined the camera housing” for the upcoming flagship.
After evaluating more than 50 design iterations, OnePlus decided to go with a circular camera housing on the back panel because of its “perfect symmetry from any orientation.” Lau shared renders as well as sketches of the phone. The three lenses are aligned horizontally within a circular black module. The LED flash sits below the lenses.

He didn’t reveal the front panel of the device. The regular 7T is expected to have a waterdrop notch similar to OnePlus 7, and the 7T Pro would get a fully bezel-less design with a popup selfie camera like its predecessor. Past leaks have revealed that the front panel would look similar to the existing models.
The upcoming smartphones will have a new smooth matte surface with “a brilliant metallic radiance.” The renders shared by Lau suggest the company will offer a metallic blue color version using the matte-frost glass. It’s not yet known whether the OnePlus 7T series would offer water-resistance, which is missing from the current models.
What to expect on Sept.26
Twitter tipster Ishan Agarwal has shared the rear camera specifications. According to Agarwal, the triple camera setup would consist of a 48MP wide-angle lens with f/1.6 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide angle lens with 117-degree field of view, and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 aperture and 2x optical zoom.
A closer look at the camera setup. And here are the exact specs from me:
Ultra Wide Angle: 16MP, 17mm, 117 degrees
Wide Angle: 48MP, 26mm, F/1.6
Telephoto (2X Optical Zoom): 12MP, 51mm, F/2.2#OnePlus7T #OnePlus7TSeries #OnePlus pic.twitter.com/jnjaXFWyQV— Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) September 17, 2019
Previous leaks have claimed that the OnePlus 7T would sport a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. OnePlus introduced the 90Hz refresh rate with the OnePlus 7 Pro to enhance the gaming and video watching experience. The company is bringing the faster refresh rate to both versions of OnePlus 7T series.
Ahead of the official unveiling, the OnePlus 7T has been spotted on Geekbench. The device is running Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset that brings better gaming, AI, and augmented reality performances. The device appeared on Geekbench with 8GB RAM. The current models offer 128GB or 256GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot. The upcoming phones are expected to offer 512GB or 1TB of storage as well.
The regular 7T is said to pack a 3,800mAh battery with OnePlus’ proprietary Warp Charge technology. The battery should easily last more than a full day of normal usage. We expect the OnePlus 7T series to run the new Android 10 software out of the box.
It’s unclear whether the company would launch both 7T and 7T Pro in the US or only one of them. OnePlus’ US landing page for the product launch mentions “OnePlus 7T reveal.” In contrast, the Indian landing page says “OnePlus 7T Series launch.” We will find out next week.
Folks at Android Police report that Verizon could also start selling OnePlus phones, which could strengthen the Chinese company’s presence in the United States. Verizon is said to be the exclusive carrier partner for the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition.
The OnePlus 7T series is going to compete with Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 10 series, Apple’s iPhone 11 line, and Google’s Pixel 4 series. The OnePlus devices would be more affordable than their rivals but only time will tell how they would perform during the crucial holiday shopping season.
