Nokia 808 PureView To Be Released In India & Russia This Month

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) is ready to move ahead in the smartphone game with a brand new model that features a unique concept for a phone. It is called 808 PureView and it’s key feature is a 41-megapixel camera.

This camera was first introduced at the annual World Mobile Congress Trade Show in Spain back in February. This new phone will roll out later this month in few countries including Russia and India.

Surprisingly, this phone features a Symbian operating system instead of Microsoft Windows operating system. Nokia executive Jo Harlow is quite excited for this new phone as he thinks it may revolutionize smartphone cameras.

The company recently sent a press release about the 808 PureView Smartphone that goes into further details about the phone. This model features a 41 megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss optics, pixel oversampling technology, and HD 1080p video recording/playback and 4x zoom capabilities. This phone makes it easy to snap a picture, zoom, reframe, crop, and resize to uncover the overlooked details.

Other key features of this phone include rich recording and Dolby headphone technology.

Nokia 808 Pureview has received several awards including Best Mobile Device from Mobile World Congress and Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from Technical Image Press Association.

This phone has yet to be sold in the United States but hopefully that will change soon enough.

I think Nokia 808 Pureview sounds like a great phone but I doubt it could compete with the likes of Google’s Android or Apple’s iPhone. It does, however, sound like the ideal smartphone for professional photographers who would like to replace their heavy cameras with a sleeker gadget that is easy to use.

If this phone proves to be a great success, it could change the future of smartphone camera technology forever. It could also raise the bar higher for digital technology in general. At press time, there’s been no word on the retail price of the phone.
