Studies have shown that most people probably work harder than they need to, which is one of several factors affecting how much sleep people get at night. But work ethic and determination don’t seem to have a strong direct correlation with the number of sleeping hours people in nations around the world.

The below chart shows the average sleep time in select major countries. The Japanese get the least sleep at night averaging only 434 minutes each. The Chinese sleep the most at around 542 minutes each night. The U.S. is around the middle of the pack at 507 minutes per night.
