With Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) having unveiled its latest smartphone at the Barcelona World Mobile Congress, the Galaxy S5 set for a release in April, attention will now turn to some extent to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). To what extent can the iPhone manufacturer respond to Samsung’s release, and will they produce a spectacular iPhone that blows the S5 out of the water?
We know from recent information that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to be using sapphire glass in the iPhone 6, in fact one particular report indicated that the corporation had already bought up enough to supply three years’ worth of iPhones! It also appears that the iPhone 6 will feature at least one model which possesses a significantly larger screen than past iPhones. Currently, the word on the street is that the premium iPhone 6 release will feature a 5.5-inch display.
The latest iPhone 6 concept
Thus, the latest concept images which have been put together by ADR Studio very much reflect the information which has already seeped out regarding this much-anticipated smartphone release. The tech community is eagerly awaiting an iPhone 6 which is significantly different is design parameters to past devices, and the images produced by ADR Studio certainly support this notion.
The concept features what could be described as a tapered look, which makes the iPhone 6 somewhat resemble the Macbook Air laptops range which has proved pretty popular for Apple already. This would certainly resemble a departure from previous iPhones, which have been uniform in thickness, but it’s an interesting concept which the iPhone manufacturer could certainly consider going with given its vogueishness at the moment.
ADR refers to its concept for the iPhone 6 as the ‘iPhone L’. Obviously this is completely speculative, but previous indications have pointed to the idea that the most expensive model of the iPhone 6 could be almost treated as a separate model by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). So the notion of a separate name is not that much of a stretch of credulity.
In addition to the premium iPhone, the concept images also include a smaller screened iPhone which features a 4.7-inch display. Previous iterations of the iPhone have also featured this size screen, but it seems possible that Apple might upgrade the display quality of this more affordable device by using Quantum Dot technology.
Specs may be misleading
With regard to specifications, we can perhaps take these with a bit more of a pinch of salt. While it’d be nice to believe the more ambitious and outrageous assertions contained within this concept image, if we’ve learned anything from the release of the Galaxy S5 it is that pragmatic considerations will dictate how smartphones turn out for the foreseeable future.
Thus, although this iPhone concept contains the very exciting notion of a 3D iSight camera, don’t necessarily expect to see this in the final iPhone 6. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will probably upgrade the camera in the iPhone, but it seems far more likely that we’ll merely see a higher megapixel rating and some other functionality.
Nonetheless, the iPhone concept images provide a tantalizing glimpse into what the iPhone 6 could be like. It seems clear that Apple wants this smartphone to be a knockout physically.
