Earlier this month, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has slashed the prices of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S in India, and this could be an indication that Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 5 in India. A new report by BGR India suggests that Apple will launch its flagship phone in India on October 26th.
BGR India has reported that their “multiple sources” have confirmed the October 26 launch for India. The best part is that Apple will be distributing the handset directly, for the first time — rather than relying on carrier partners. Now there won’t be middle men or carrier contracts on networks like Airtel, Vodafone, etc. But, it won’t be a surprise if these network carriers do try to lure customers by their offers and attractive packages. Surely it would make more sense to buy an unlocked iPhone, rather than buying it from carriers.
This device marks the quickest ever launch for an Apple product, becoming available in 31 countries within just two weeks of its release. More than 100 countries and 240 carriers will be covered by the end of December, but specifics are not yet provided.
The device supports high-speed LTE networks, but since India is not equipped with such technology, they would not be able to enjoy such high speed. Customers in India will need to make themselves happy with a new 4-inch screen, faster A6 processor, and the new design. We’ll keep you informed on any official announcement from Apple about this.
