The last iOS 10 jailbreak tool was released in January by Italian hacker Luca Todesco. Popular jailbreaking teams like Pangu and TaiG haven’t released a working jailbreak since the iOS 9.2-9.3.3 tool in July last year. Since Todesco’s Yalu102 tool is semi-untethered, it requires users to re-sign the jailbreak every seven days, which can be frustrating. Also, it doesn’t work with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
Todesco’s Jbme102 tool for iOS 10.2 canceled
Luca Todesco said in a tweet over the weekend that he had found a way to escape the requirement to re-sign it every seven days. The tweet pointed to an imminent release of a browser-based JailbreakMe (Jbme102) tool after Apple releases the iOS 10.3 to the public. Forbes said it was possible that Todesco was waiting for the 10.3 release to see if Apple patches a bug he intended to use, or he was just waiting for the iOS 10.3 to finish building his tool.

The hype was short-lived. Todesco clarified in another tweet that the browser-based JailbreakMe102 tool would not work with Yalu102, which supports 64-bit devices. The hacker also revealed that he was the “mystery man” assisting Saurik in the development of a tool that would automatically re-sign every seven days. The auto re-sign tool seems to have failed.

Lang Shi’s tool to turn Yalu102 into ‘fully untethered’
There is still hope. A developer named Lang Shi said in a tweet that his “untetherer” tool for iOS 10.1-10.2 is “almost ready.” The tool will reportedly allow users to turn the semi-untethered Yalu102 into “fully untethered.” Shi had said previously that he had found “2 new kernel UAF bugs in iOS 10.3b7.” One of the exploits is still present in the latest beta 7 of iOS 10.3.

It’s a clear indication that Lang Shi could release a 10.3 jailbreak at a later date. He said the “untetherer” tool would work for iPhone 7 as well using the mach_portal tool if the user is still on iOS 10.1. The new Yalu102 jailbreak for 10.2 doesn’t work with iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. After bitter silence for a couple of months, the jailbreak community is likely to see new tools in the coming weeks.
Save the SHSH2 blobs for iOS 10.2.1
Apple is still signing the 10.2.1, so you should save the SHSH2 blobs for the firmware before the company stops signing it. Saving the SHSH2 blobs allows users to upgrade or downgrade to the given firmware whenever the jailbreak becomes available. Also, beware of anyone trying to sell you a new jailbreak tool. They could be fake and malicious. The only legitimate iOS 10.2 jailbreak available today is Yalu102 from Luca Todesco.
Just a few days ago, Apple seeded the seventh beta of iOS 10.3 to developers. Registered developers can download it over the air or through the Apple Developer Center. The 10.3 is a major update bringing features like Find My AirPods, a new Apple File System (APFS), and changes to the App Store. It is said to be the last major update before the announcement of iOS 11.
