More information on the Huawei Nova 2S has come to light. Industry insider Evan Blass has shared renders of the device earlier today that appear to reliable and accurate. The image included below seems to coincide with previous peeks at the device.

With the Huawei Nova 2S expected to compete in a mid-to-upper range segment of the handset market, it seems as if the manufacturer is playing it safe. Following the design trends of most recent smartphones, Huawei has opted for a device with a tall screen and minimal bezels. It does stand out from the crowd, however, with the interesting design choice to retain the physical home button found on the Nova 2i. The home button also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and power and volume buttons located on the right side of the device.

The Huawei Nova 2S leak shows the phone in bright blue, which must be one of the official color options. More traditional variants like black and gold will likely be offered, but for those looking for something a little different, the choice for an unusual color is a nice touch. The Nova 2S design is similar to the high-end Honor V10, but it’s important to remember that the 2S is meant to be a mid-range device rather than a high-end flagship.

Power, Display, and Features

The hiSilicon 960 and GB of RAM is impressive, but is not set to compete with premium devices from the likes of Samsung or Apple. It’s up for debate whether or not a phone actually needs the huge amounts of power that recent flagships offer, and it’s likely that the Nova 2S will handle pretty much any task you throw at it. If you’re not constantly streaming HD video or playing graphically intensive games, there’s very little reason to shell out $1000 for a phone like the Galaxy S8 or the iPhone X. The phone is set to ship with 64 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256 GB with a microSD.

The Huawei Nova 2S is also rumored to feature a 6-inch display panel with a FDH+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 in an aspect ratio of 18.9. The rear dual-camera setup will likely include a 20 megapixel and 16 megapixel sensor as well as a dual-LED flash. As far as the operating system goes, the phone is expected to run on Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s signature skin of EMUI. The phone will be officially revealed tomorrow, with an official launch on December 7.

Huawei is an incredibly popular company in their home country of China, but has so far failed to capture a significant portion of the worldwide smartphone scene. Hopefully with more attractively priced mid-range devices, they may be able to find a niche with customers that value a combination of performance and value. While it’s unlikely that Huawei will be dethroning Apple or Samsung anytime soon, the Huawei Nova 2S is shaping up to be an excellent handset that will appeal to budget-conscious buyers regardless of location.
