When you think that you are heading to a place where 3G and internet connection is not working, you can save maps for offline use. You can save maps of upto six large metro areas with your working internet connection before you head over to those areas. Once you download the maps, they are stored on your smartphone which can be viewed offline also.
If you have Android smartphone, then in most cases, Google Maps app would already be installed. If not, then install this app from Google Play Store. Navigate to the area for which you want to download the map and then select “Make available offline” from the menu.
Note that if you are not able view this “Make available offline” from the menu, then you probably need to update Google Maps app.
Google Maps will now display the file size of the map which you want to download. Tap on “Done” to confirm this step and the download process will start.
