Housing Starts Rise at Fastest Rate Since May

Privately-owned housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 891k, the U.S. Census Bureau reports. This is 0.9% above the revised July estimate of 883k and is 19.0% above the August 2012 rate of 749k.

Single-family housing starts in August were at a SAAR of 628k. This is 7.0% above the revised July figure of 587k.

This is the fastest rate of new housing starts since May, but still a relatively slow pace.
