As we know, there are many spammers and bots on Twitter. They sometimes mentions us or start following us. Many people wonder how many fake accounts there are that follow them.
For those who want to know about how many fake or spammy accounts are following them on Twitter, here’s a web app for that purpose.
An app known as Fake Follower Check, from Status People, scans your followers, and then it presents three type of results – how many followers are Fake, Inactive, and Good.
First, you’ll need to authorize this app to access your Twitter account, and then it will scan and present the results, as you can see in the below image.
Status People explain how the tools works:
We take a sample of your follower data, up to 500 records depending on how ‘popular’ you are and assess them against a number of simple spam criteria.
On a very basic level, spam accounts tend to have few or no followers, and few or no tweets. But in contrast they tend to follow a lot of other accounts.
For now, it only displays the percentage of fake/spammy followers, but you cannot know exactly which accounts/followers are fake. I wonder why it doesn’t let you know the names of fake followers.
StatusPeople claims that for those with 10,000 followers or less, the tool provides a very accurate insight into how many inactive and fake followers they have.
