General Motors Company (NYSE:GM)’s 2014 models of full-size Chevrolet and GMC pickups are better than Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F)’s or any big pickups in terms of mileage and towing ratings, according to report from USA Today.
The report cited that the latest model of Chevrolet and GMC pickups has the best fuel economy compared with its competitors in the auto industry. The new trucks from General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) will be available in the market this coming springs starting with the crew-cab versions and the other models will be on sale on the latter part of 2012.
According to the largest automaker in the United States, the Chevy Silverado has the best fuel economy of any V8 pickup available in the market. The truck offers 23 mpg highway for 2wd models and 22 mpg highway for 4wd models, based on the estimate provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) boasted that the New Chevy Silverado outperforms the 2013 Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) EcoBoost V-6 in terms of fuel economy.
In a statement, Alan Batey, vice president, U.S sales and service of General Motors Company said, “The 2014 Silverado is new from hood to hitch. When you combine the innovative features of the new Silverado with base pricing equivalent to 2013 models and standard scheduled maintenance, Silverado becomes a great choice for pickup customers, helping them save money when they buy – and when they drive.”
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) will be launching the 2014 Silverado with crew cab models with the all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, which is SAE certified at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft torque available from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. The technology is expected to power three out of four Silverado 1500s.
Jeff Luke, the executive chief engineer for Silverado trucks said, “Silverado’s available 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 gives customers the best of both worlds,. Customers get the proven power and dependability of a V-8 truck engine, with better fuel economy than a leading competitor’s smaller turbocharged V-6.”
In addition, Luke said, “EcoTec3 builds on 58 years of V-8 experience and trillions of real-world miles. The 2014 Silverado will give customers class-leading V-8 fuel efficiency and the peace of mind that comes with a proven V-8 design, a combination no competitor can match.”
According to General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), the Silverado’s 5.3 liter Eco-Tec V-8 is also designed to run on a regular octane gasoline even for towing and hauling. The company said its three EcoTec engines are equipped with direct fuel injection, active fuel management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing. The engines were designed with a compact overhead valve and weight-saving components such as aluminium blocks and cylinder heads for additional energy savings.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) said the retail price for the new Silverado regular cab will start at $24,585 including a $995 destination freight charge.
