With two major Android smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and LG G5, both having just been announced, the smartphone marketplace has just been shaken up significantly. The two Korean flagships will compete with the iPhone 6s, and are clearly also direct competition for one another. So how do the three leading devices in the smartphone marketplace compare? Without further ado, here is a comparison of their qualities.
iPhone 6s vs Galaxy S7 vs LG G5 – Size
The size of the devices is directly related to the display included within them, and thus it is not surprising that the iPhone 6s is the smallest of the three. Similarly, the LG G5 is slightly bulkier than the Galaxy S7, although it does deliver the largest screen of the three devices.
Weight
The LG G5 is the weightiest of the three handsets as well, and is actually over 10 percent heavier than the iPhone 6s. The Apple device is the sleekest and lightest of the three smartphones, and this may win it some plaudits among those looking for a convenient handset.
Display
In all honesty, the iPhone 6s is lagging behind its Android competitors somewhat in this department, and this is surely something that Apple will be forced to address when the iPhone 7 is released. There has yet to be a full HD iPhone smartphone, although the iPhone 6s Plus is a full HD mobile. But the resolution of the iPhone 6s is barely half that of both the Galaxy S7 and LG G5, and which of the two Android competitors offers the superior screen is open to debate. The LG G5 has the largest display, while the Galaxy S7 is able to offer a superior pixels per inch rating.
Operating system
Both Android devices run off the latest Marshmallow operating system, whereas the iPhone 6s is naturally imbued with the proprietary iOS system. Both of these operating systems have strengths and weaknesses. iOS is generally considered to be slick, efficient, speedy and intuitive, but is something of a closed shop. By comparison, Android Marshmallow offers a much more customizable experience, and this appeals to many people who enjoy the flexibility that it provides.
Processor
It is difficult to directly compare the processing capabilities of the three devices, as the iPhone 6s benefits significantly from its proprietary hardware and software setup. Apple’s devices are always slick units, and the iPhone 6s is no exception to this rule. What can be said confidently is that the Galaxy S7 has the marginally superior processor over the LG G5, with the clock speed of the Samsung handset being faster. In addition, the Galaxy S7 is effectively an octa-core unit – although this involves two bundles of quad-core processors in reality – whereas the LG G5 is merely quad-core.

Storage
There is significant divergence in this department, and it is clear that those smartphone consumers wanting a large amount of storage should opt for the iPhone range. The premium iPhone 6s offers 128GB of internal storage, and neither the Galaxy S7 nor LG G5 can match this figure. Indeed, the LG G5 offers only 32GB of storage via internal methods, which is at least doubled by the premium version of the Galaxy S7.
Micro SD
However, both of the Android devices enable users to boost the memory of their smartphones via micro SD technology. This is not available in the iPhone range at present, although some rumors have indicated that it could appear in the iPhone 7 for the first time, potentially boosting the memory of the forthcoming smartphone up to 256GB. But for now, the two Android variants enable users to have flexibility with regard to memory, even if Apple delivers this in a different way.
Memory
Again, it is difficult to directly compare the iPhone 6s to the two Android devices in this department, as Apple has never required the same amount of memory in its devices owing to its proprietary hardware and software setup. So the 2GB included in the iPhone 6s may seem somewhat paltry, but it has traditionally done an excellent job for users of the Apple smartphone.
Both the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 include 4GB of memory, so there is really nothing to choose between the two Android mobiles in this area.
Rear camera
Varied technology included in the smartphone cameras of the three devices makes this one of the most interesting areas to compare, and one in which personal preference will certainly play a massive role. The iPhone 6s camera was certainly the most critically acclaimed unit that Apple has ever included in a smartphone, and the 12-megapixel rating certainly is impressive compared to previous iPhone units. Video shooting was notably impressive with the iPhone 6s, and the optical image stabilization included in the camera has been particularly praised.
Samsung has pared down at the camera in the Galaxy S7 to 12-megapixels, suggesting that it may be of very similar quality to the Apple snapper. But the inclusion of BRITECELL technology, which Samsung is now referring to as dual-pixel, could give the Android handset a very significant edge in its ability to capture high-quality photographs in darker conditions.
The LG G5 boasts the most powerful camera of the three in pure spec terms, with the 16-megapixel snapper outranking both the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s. It is notable, though, that the iPhone 6s features a dual-LED flash, which is not the case with the LG unit.
Front camera
LG does clearly win out with regard to the front-facing camera, though, simply owing to the fact that its eight-megapixel snapper outranks both of the five-megapixel units included in the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s. The selfie-capturing generation may certainly favor the LG G5 over its two major competitors
Battery
Finally, the iPhone 6s battery is by far the smallest of the three smartphones, and this is reflected in the criticized battery life that the iPhone 6s delivers. The Galaxy S7 has a marginally larger battery than the LG G5, but the latter does provide users with a removable cell.
