Galaxy S6 To Feature Ultra Fast WiFi, 64-Bit Processor

Updated on

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s forthcoming flagship Galaxy S6 has been subject to a lot of rumors in the past few weeks. The Korean company’s crumbling fortunes have fueled rumors that Samsung may launch the Galaxy S6 sooner than expected to at least stabilize its business. After Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 came out with metal body, Galaxy S6 should also sport a metal casing.

Samsung develops WiZig

However, the latest rumor is that the Galaxy S6 would feature superfast WiFi. It may also be the first Android smartphone to run a 64-bit processor. The Korean electronics giant claims to have developed a new WiFi technology dubbed WiZig, which is at least five times faster than any existing system. It will close the gap between wired and WiFi connection on smartphones. Today, wired connection is much faster than WiFi as electric currents can attain a faster speed in wires than on air.

Samsung’s new WiFi technology works on 60GHz band. Note that 60GHz isn’t a new technology as it was introduced by the WiFi Alliance last year. But the Korean giant has worked to overcome the drawbacks of the technology. The new WiFi standard will allow data transmission speeds of up to 575MB per second. That means you can download a 1GB HD movie in less than two seconds.

Galaxy S6 to be the first Android phone with 64-bit processor?

Further, there have been reports that the Galaxy S6 will feature a 64-bit processor. Google has made its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS 64-bit capable. Many expect the new device to feature a 4K display. Though Samsung has developed the 4K technology, it may not feature in the Galaxy S6 as it will require a huge battery life and a powerful processor.

The Galaxy S6 will reportedly sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or 810 processor, Adreno 430 GPU, 3GB RAM and the newest Android Lollipop. Other features include a faster charging technology, UV sensor, waterproofing, dust-proofing, 3300mAh battery and multidirectional microphones. Galaxy S6 is expected to be announced at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March 2015.
