Galaxy S5 To Come With Some Mind-Boggling Features [REPORT]

Updated on

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) seems to have decided to go a step ahead with the Galaxy S5. While Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans are busy creating concept designs of the iPhone 6 with eye ID retina scanner, industry sources told ZDNet Korea that the Galaxy S5 is likely to come with the iris eye scanner with an extremely high resolution display. The iris scanner will work as an unlock feature. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launched the iPhone 5S with fingerprint scanner. Since then there have been speculations that an eye scanner could provide better security to smartphone users.

Galaxy S5 to sport eye and fingerprint scanners

The Galaxy S5 is also expected to sport a Quad HD (QHD) screen with 2,560 x 1,440 resolution. That’s much higher than the usual 720p HD resolution, and equals the resolution of the 27-inch iMac. Though there hasn’t been any reports about the screen size, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) is likely to stay with a 5-inch panel, because if the company increased the screen size of the Galaxy S5 above 5.5-inches, it may compete with the Galaxy Note 3.

ZDNet says the Galaxy S5 would feature an iris scanner as well as fingerprint sensors. The Korean electronics giant has already used the eye-tracking feature in the Galaxy S4. So, it seems more likely that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) may add a security element to the technology. Sources said the iris scanner would allow users to unlock the device, and access various services and bank accounts. A fingerprint scanner is more vulnerable to fraud or theft as users leave their fingerprints on everything they touch. But an eye scanner is considered more secure and reliable.

Galaxy S5 with Tizen-Firefox OS

Sources familiar with the matter told DesignNTrend that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) is working with Firefox to develop its own operating system. So, there have been rumors that the Galaxy S5 may come into two versions, one with Tizen and another with Android. It will offer users more choice. However, there have also been reports that the Galaxy S5 will sport the latest Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

Other rumored features of the Galaxy S5 include 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor, 3GB RAM, 16MP camera, 4000mAh battery and a metal body. ZDNet Korea reports that the Galaxy S5 could be announced at the Mobile World Congress in February 2014.
