Arrowhead Research Climbs +8.54% Midday, Is Up Over +50% YTD

Arrowhead Research Corp (NASDAQ:ARWR), dELiA*s, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLIA) and Avalon Rare Metals Inc (NYSEMKT:AVL) are today’s top-gaining billionaire picks midday. The biggest losers are Repros Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RPRX), Vince Holding Corp (NYSE:VNCE) and Dot Hill Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:HILL).

Arrowhead Research Climbs

The share price of Arrowhead Research Corp (NASDAQ:ARWR) climbed +8.54% early in the day this Wednesday. The biopharmaceutical company has gained +52.1% since the start of the year. Billionaire George Soros cashed out of his Arrowhead Research stake last quarter.

dELiA*s, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLIA) hit midday up +8.35%. Despite today’s surge, the Tiger Global pick has had a rough go in 2014, its price down -45.43% YTD and -19.62% over the past month alone.

The share price of Avalon Rare Metals Inc (NYSEMKT:AVL) surged +6.8% today. The mineral exploration and development company has been in Richard Chilton’s investment portfolio since the first quarter of 2011, and as of Q2 2014, the billionaire reported holding 291,000 shares. Short interest in the company is on the decline, decreasing 2.2% from July 31st to August 15th.

Reprox Therapeutics Dips on Downgrade

Repros Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RPRX) hit a road bump this Wednesday, its price falling -14.53%. Analysts at Piper Jaffray downgraded their rating of the stock to a neutral today, and while Ascendiant Capital Markets reiterated its positive rating on Friday, today’s downgrade took a toll. Farallon Capital initiated a stake in the company in the first quarter of 2013.

Vince Holding Corp (NYSE:VNCE) posted an -11% loss midday. The apparel company reported second quarter earnings results today, including an adjusted EPS of $0.28 and revenues of $89.3 million. Even though it beat analysts’ expectations on both, investors were apparently unimpressed. Despite today’s loss, VNCE is up +24.58% over the past three months.

Dot Hill Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:HILL) dipped -7.01% today, coming back down from yesterday’s surge of +5.77%. The company has had a strong run over the past year, its price climbing +57.89%.
