A new rumor regarding the upcoming iPhone 6 indicates Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may tap Samsung for A8 chips. The South Korean tech giant signed a contract to produce 30% to 40% of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s 14 nm A9 family of chips in 2015, although TSMC will handle the bulk of orders.

Apple to work with Samsung

Just last summer, there were reports that Samsung signed a deal to manufacture the processors. In a report for The Christian Post, Vincent Funaro added, “Samsung has worked with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) for quite some time and played a serious role in the production of the A7 chip found inside the iPhone 5S. The chip produced at a smaller 28-nm node compared to the 32-nm A6. The A8 chip will end up being for the iPhone 6 which is also rumored to feature a 4.9-inch display. An older report from the Chinese site C Technology said Apple tests for an iPhone with this size display along with a new iPhone 5C model began recently. The claim greatly differs from a Bloomberg report that surfaced earlier this year stating that the two next-generation iPhones will feature curved displays at 4.7 and 5.5-inches.”

iPhone 6, other models in the works

The two aforementioned phone models are expected to be released sometime next year. These phones will feature larger displays with a glass that curves downward towards the edges, and sensors that can distinguish the difference between light or heavy touches may be built in. The larger 5.5 inch Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 6 is rumored to compete with the Galaxy Note 3 and the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 is expected to be a phone for those who want a larger screen.

These smartphones have yet to be confirmed. If both phones exist, the gadgets will likely debut during the third quarter of 2014. For now, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans can enjoy the iPhone 5S, their most current smartphone that sold better than expected.
