Amazon India Starts Selling Mobile Phones and Cameras

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)  has started to shake up the Indian ecommerce market by offering to sell mobile phones, cameras, portable media players and accessories, as promised in its earlier press release. The ecommerce giant has come up with an introductory offer by offering a 10 percent discount on selected phones and a 15 percent discount on selected cameras.

Amazon has launched the Indian marketplace earlier this month, and initially, the company offered to sell only books. Later on, Kindle devices were added to its catalogue, and recently, Kindle books were added too.

But now with mobile phones and accessories, cameras and photography, and PMPs, the retail giant is offering a larger selection. The phones that are listed at Amazon.in include – Samsung Galaxy S4 for INR 38,699, Galaxy Grand Duos for INR 18,699, HTC One for INR 42,899, Google Nexus 4 for INR 25,499, iPhone 5 for INR 43,989 and many more. By looking at these prices, Amazon is offering competitive prices, for sure.

Cameras On Amazon India

Cameras that are sold on Amazon India include point and shoot cameras from Canon, Sony and Nikon, as well as DSLRs from Canon and Nikon.

With this announcement, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) now offers six categories of products on Amazon.in including Books, Movies and TV shows and the Kindle family of E-readers, ebooks and Kindle Fire tablets. Customers can shop from more than 150 Electronics retailers in at Amazon with several including Croma, Vijay Sales, UniverCell, Saholic, and J.J. Mehta & Sons using Fulfillment by Amazon. For those who don’t know, Fulfilled by Amazon has features like cash on delivery, delivery tracking to the doorstep, and free returns pickup.

With the company’s latest move, it is clear that it wants to expand its product offering and wants to become a comprehensive e-commerce retailer in India. Now, how Amazon will compete against other online retailers like Flipkart, Saholic, and more needs to be seen.
