Activity trackers, wearable cameras and smart watches, at least until Google Glass is released, represent the mainstay of the industry as it stands (or is worn) and Amazon is looking to become the clearing house for all these devices. You’ll find Jawbone, GoPro, and Samsung’s products all in one place as well as devices from newcomers Basis and Misfit. In addition, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) will provide a home for devices soon to be delivered by brands like Narrative and Basis.

Amazon statement

“Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices,” said John Nemeth, Director of Wireless and Mobile Electronics at Amazon. “We’re thrilled to bring our customers a store with the largest selection and great prices that helps eliminate the guesswork when deciding which wearable devices best fit their needs–whether that is tracking activity, staying connected through smart watches or capturing their next adventure with wearable cameras.”

In addition to providing a market for all of these devices as they come to market, Amazon has opened a “Learning Center” in the store in order to better explain wearable tech to its customers. The Learning Center will have detailed buying guides in addition to videos produced by both Amazon and its vendors to better explain the technology and individual devices. The “shop” also features an “Editor’s Corner” well customers will find a wealth of wearable tech industry news, editor’s reviews, and additional resources.

Same Amazon commitment

While wearable tech may take some learning, customers won’t find any surprises in the wearable tech store. It’s still Amazon which means that fast and free shipping are still on offer as well as free Two-Day shipping for those that subscribe to Amazon Prime. Customer and editorial reviews will remain available as well as personalized product recommendations and the ease of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN).

While it could be argued that the foreseen privacy invasion that will come with Google Glass, wearable tech has taken a bit of a hit but also put other devices in the news. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is intent on getting these products on your wrist and body with the opening of its new product specific store.
