The OnePlus One is an exciting new smartphone that has recently made headlines all over the web. This smartphone is manufactured by a startup company launched by an ex-Oppo executive. It runs on the popular CyanogenMod based on Android 4.4 KitKat, which means it will not be bloated with gigabytes of OEM and carrier bloat.

There are many points that make the OnePlus One an exciting new smartphone, but let’s take a look at three main reasons on why it stands out from others.

Affordable price tag

The OnePlus One comes with an attractive price tag. The 16GB model comes for $299, while the 64GB model is priced at $349. Only the Nexus 5 comes closer in this price range, but still it has better specs than the Nexus 5. In fact, in this price range, no other smartphone can beat the OnePlus One.

What’s also worth noting is that just by paying a little $50 more, you can get the storage bumped from 16GB to 64GB, unlike other companies like Apple who has a price difference of $200 between the 16GB and 64GB iPhone 5S models. Finally, at least someone is doing this pricing strategy right.

High end tech specs

The OnePlus One is powerful; real powerful. It is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU. Apart from these, it offers all the regular features that are normally present in a high-end smartphone like 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 4G LTE, NFC and more.

In fact, the processor, RAM and GPU puts it on par with the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2, which costs almost double to what the OnePlus One will be available for. With such a cheap price tag, you’re not losing out on features. Now finally we can get a powerful smartphone at an affordable price.

Android, but not bloated

As mentioned already, the OnePlus One comes with Android 4.4.2 at the base, but this is not the standard version that you will get with other smartphones like Nexus 5. It comes with CyanogenMod 11S, a community driven Android project that aims to enhance Android experience.

The plus point of CyanogenMod 11S is that your phone won’t come with any skin like Samsung’s TouchWiz or HTC’s Sense. The CyanogenMod offers alot of customization options that these skins provide, so that you can tweak your smartphone as per your wish without installing apps for every small task. This also means that it won’t come with all the bloat-ware that normally eats up much of your storage space.

So for now like everyone else, we’re also excited about the OnePlus One. Let’s wait for the reviews to chime in, and only then we’ll be able to comment more on whether it is worth purchasing or not.
