Fans of Rockstar Games and its Red Dead Redemption franchise recently discovered that there would be a RDR2. And while that is exciting, what about GTA 6? When is the gaming world going to see this long awaited 6th installment? Today we’re going to provide you with everything we could find, rumors, leaks, and news in a bid to answer that question.
So here we go…
GTA 6 Release Date?
Going on what we’ve found out, Red Dead Redemption 2, is Rockstars priority right now. And it’s penned in to have a Fall release this year. Unfortunately, that means GTA 6 while under development will have to wait!
Clint Carlson's hedge fund, Carlson Capital's Double Black Diamond strategy, gained 1.04% net of fees in the month of September. Following this performance, the fund has returned 9.87% net of fees for the year to the end of the month. Why? Put simply, RDR2 could have a similar online platform to GTA 5. If that is the case, it’s possible that due to the resources required (developers), Grand Theft Auto 6 could be as far away as 2020! So, it’s a safe bet to say; we won’t be hearing anything official about the game for some time.
Where will GTA 6 be Set?
We realize that nothing official has been revealed, but that hasn’t prevented people from speculating. One of the biggest rumors currently doing the rounds centers around location, in the past GTA has been city based. However, according to recent speculation, this could dramatically change in the next installment. These rumors suggest the game could be massive, so huge that it encompasses the entire USA!
However, a different rumor points towards the UK’s capital city, London as the next location. In fact, it was Rockstar’s co-founder, Dan Houser who started this speculation when he said:
“At the moment, it feels like GTA’s DNA is contemporary-ish, American-ish, English-speaking-ish, because that’s what it has been… But that doesn’t necessarily limit it to those, that’s just what we’ve done so far.”
Last on the location rumor mill is a return to Vice City, which would tie in with another piece of speculation about a 1970’s theme. Why Vice City? If you remember the GTA 3 Trilogy, it covered three locations, Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas. And it was in those three places that the first game was set. Of those Cities, Vice City is the only one that hasn’t been revisited by recent games.
A Female Protagonist
It’s not new, but the possibility of a female main character is yet again top of the rumor mill wishlist! Long have fans called for a female lead, only to have their hopes dashed upon the game’s release. That being said, right now this rumor has some Hollywood heavyweight meat on its bones in the form of Eva Mendez.
Apparently, she has already begun work on her role. However, she’s not alone. As her real life, husband and Hollywood heart-throb Ryan Gosling is also working on GTA 6 as a new male protagonist! The question on your lips, should now be, “How likely, is this?” our answer is, Rockstar Games does have the international recognition to be able to pull in stars of their stature. However, the facts are simply not known!
Be a Cop or a Criminal
One interesting piece of information points towards the next installment using the multiple protagonist features of GTA 5. If accurate, this could lead the way for a clear choice, players can be either a good guy Cop or a bad guy felon.
Which would you choose?
Rumors also suggest that GTA 6 will be VR compatible. However, this speculation could just be from the minds of eager fans. As for when and if this happens, that will entirely depend on how well VR does as a format. However, at the moment Sony’s PSVR is the only console compatible VR headset, it connects with the PS4 Pro and PS4. As for the future, Microsoft’s highly anticipated Xbox Scorpio will according to rumors be VR-ready. However, so far Microsoft has not officially said either way.
