Apple To Debut iOS 8 For iPhone 6 In June At WWDC

Updated on

It has long been since assumed that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will debut its iOS 8 operating system software at some point this year, ahead of its inclusion in the forthcoming (but not actually officially confirmed) iPhone 6. But for the first time, the rumor mill has a pretty firm date for the release of this software, as Apple has confirmed an event when we will likely see the new operating system unveiled.

WWDC confirmed for June

The 2014 iteration of Apple’s annual World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) will take place on June 2, as officially confirmed by Apple in the last 24 hours. The WWDC is held for developers every year, and gives them the opportunity to become acquainted with new Apple software for the first time. With iOS 8 will not available to even the most prestigious developers until the next generation iPhone 6 is released, the WWDC is seen as a key opportunity for big Apple developers to obtain a peek at this important piece of software.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller, has been speaking publicly in the last 24 hours about the plans that Apple has for this conference, and how highly the world’s most popular brand values this event. Schiller plugged the fact that the WWDC will enable developers to take a look at the “latest advances in iOS and OS X” so this is one particular Apple rumor which can be viewed as rock solid.

The WWDC for 2014 will be held at Moscone West in San Francisco. Those who attend the conference can be pretty sure of some nifty surprises from Apple, as last year’s WWDC introduced the development community to such gems as iOS 7, OS X Mavericks, iTunes Radio and the latest  Mac Pro desktop computer.

iOS 8 rumors

We’re yet to have the new feature set in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) confirmed – not in itself surprising as clearly it intends to do so during this event – but rumored additions to iOS 8 are rumored to include an updated Notification Center, the introudction of Voice Memos, along with improved Messages, Game Center and CarPlay.

Aside from that, it is possible that Apple will utilize the San Francisco event to preview an oft-rumored application Healthbook, which it has been the subject of leaks in the recent past. It is thought that this app could revolutionize the entire connected fitness accessory industry, and could feature as a key function in a forthcoming Apple smartwatch.

Will we see an iWatch?

In accordance with this, many Apple fans will be hoping that this very concept is finally aired at WWDC. There have been murmurings about an Apple iWatch for quite some time, and while the company itself has kept determinedly quiet on the subject, it is hard to imagine that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) won’t want to release something of this nature at some point. The whole concept of a smartwatch would fit in seamlessly with its strategy to penetrate new markets and product lines over the next 12 – 24 months, which would seem to be essential given the lukewarm market reaction to Apple’s latest financial figures.

All in all, it will be intriguing to see what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) comes up with in June…
