Galaxy Gear 2 Might Launch At Samsung Unpacked Event 2014

Updated on

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch has failed to be impressive, but it surely displays what the wearable tech world has to offer to us. The Korean company is not in any mood to accept defeat in the smartwatch world, and thus we’ll soon be able to see Samsung announcing the Galaxy Gear 2, as per the report of the New York Times. This second generation of the Galaxy Gear is lined up for announcement at the Unpacked 5 event this month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

When it comes to smartwatches, the first ever successful smartwatch is the Pebble, which came in to existence thanks to Kickstarter. Since then, several tech companies like Samsung, Apple, Sony and Microsoft have been rumored to be working on their own smartwatch. Until now, only Samsung and Sony have succeeded in releasing these so-called smartwatches.

Galaxy Gear 2 could be announced alongside Galaxy S5

As per the report, Samsung is going to announce the Galaxy Gear 2 along with the main star of the event, which is the Galaxy S5, the Korean company’s next-generation flagship smartphone. This smartwatch, instead of getting a complete refresh, it would be mainly an upgrade to its predecessor which started selling from last autumn.

Samsung also plans other introductions at the Mobile World Congress. At “Unpacked,” it is expected to show off an upgrade to its Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which it began selling last autumn.

The first generation Galaxy Gear has failed to impress many reviewers, and that’s why any upgrades and improvements are more than welcome. For example; the smartwatch is bulky, overpriced and worst of all, it comes with a very poor battery life. Hopefully the company will be thinking to correct all these mistakes that have happened in the past.

So for now, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the Galaxy Gear 2. If this report is true, then February 24th is the day when we might see the unveiling of the second generation of Samsung’s smartwatch.
