Pictures emerged this morning from CTechnology that appeared to show a Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) smartwatch. Nokia has agreed to sell its consumer hardware business to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), but it doesn’t look like the company is done just yet. BGR.com picked up the photo leak earlier today.
The photos leaked today contain little detail, leaving Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) fans with little to speculate about. If the company is planning on unveiling a new piece of wearable technology, it will likely do so at an event planned for later in October. Rumors suggest the company is going to launch a new range of Lumia smartphones at the event, and may release a Windows tablet.
Microsoft Nokia hardware
Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) does not want to go out of the mobile business with a whimper. The firm is set to continue selling top quality smartphones up until Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) takes control of the business. Microsoft is licensing the Nokia name for sales of feature phones, but the last new Nokia smartphone will be shipped in the coming months.
A smartwatch is the kind of product that both Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) could be interested in launching. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has long been rumored as being interested in the market, and Samsung launched a smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, just weeks ago.
If the Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) smartwatch is planned for launch it may be the best way for the company to go out. A new innovation in a market that has not been established yet would be a way for the company to celebrate its long years of mobile innovation, and would give fans of the company something to cherish.

Nokia failed to keep up in an industry that was rapidly changing, and now it will become an almost entirely different company.
The firm still has a lot of assets to, and including, its name. The company has a large patent portfolio and a great deal of cash along with a cash-making business. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) will survive the launch of its smartwatch, but not as it will be remembered.
