Steve Jobs: The Web Pays Tribute To The Man Who Founded Apple

Updated on

Today marks the first anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death, the founder, and twice Chief Executive Officer, of the world’s most valuable company, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). He was an inspiration to many, and has become the symbol of innovation and genius.

This week we’ve already reviewed how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is doing without Steve Jobs, and looked at some of the most recent archive documents from the man himself. Today, rather than rewriting an obituary or examining his legacy, we look at some of the ways those who knew him best, have remembered Steve Jobs on this day.

Steve Jobs: The Web Pays Tribute To The Man Who Founded Apple

Steve Jobs still casts a long shadow over the world of technology. His name has become synonymous with ideas of entrepreneurship and success.  Around the Internet today, many have sought to pay unique tribute to the tech maven. Here’s a few of our favorites.

Apple.com: The first tribute comes, of course, from the website of the firm Jobs is most readily identified with. From his founding of the company, through his fall from grace, and ultimately his resurrection, Steve Jobs was Apple.

The company pays tribute to their spiritual leader today, with a video containing iconic images of Steve Jobs, overlaid with audio quotes from the executive. The site’s home page also contains a short message from the firm’s current CEO Tim Cook, examining the legacy of Steve Jobs, and the future of the company he left the world.

Mark Zuckerberg: In an interview on NBC yesterday, celebrating the milestone 1 billion user mark on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg paid tribute to Steve Jobs. The link contains a video of the interview with the Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) founder.

Zuckerberg pays tribute to Steve Jobs, by commenting on the things he feels he had in common with the late great tech giant. User experience is foremost among these, according to Zuckerberg. The young CEO also commented on Steve Jobs’ focus, as an attribute that marked him out from the crowd.

CultofMac.com: The site dedicated to news about Steve Jobs’ company, and news about the firm’s upcoming products, hosts a tribute to him on their front page. The presence of Steve Jobs can be felt in their click through slide show.

The memorial contains quotes from Steve Jobs, on a background of iconic pictures of him. As the website explains itself, Steve Jobs is best remembered “in his own words”.

Russia: In one of the more unique tributes to Steve Jobs, a town in Russia has planned a monumental tribute t him. Novosibirsk, Russia’s third city, located deep in Siberia, is planning a physical monument to Steve Jobs.

The installation will take the form of a live Apple tree, modified in order to allow it to connect to smart phones. The precise details of that connection are not easily discerned. Whatever the eventual form, the building of a tribute to Steve Jobs in Siberia shows the reach the man’s vision had across the world.

Pixar: Pixar’s website does not have a tribute to Steve Jobs on its front page, nor is his help in building the company widely remembered alongside his technological exploits. Pixar does however pay tribute to Steve Jobs’ constantly.

In the credit’s of many of the company’s films, Steve Jobs is listed in the Special Thanks section. The company’s most recent film, Brave, contains exactly that mark of gratitude. Steve Jobs had a great deal to do with Pixar’s success, and it is clear from the company’s credits that they have not forgotten his input.

These are just five of the hundreds, and possibly thousands, of tributes that have been paid to Steve Jobs on this, the first anniversary of his death. If you have any others you’d like to bring our attention to leave a link in the comments.
