Diesel and Fossil group have collaborated to launch their first smartwatch as part of the Diesel lineup. The Italian group sells the hybrid watch Diesel On Time, which will run on Android Wear 2.0, and the Diesel On Track fitness tracker.

What to expect with the Diesel smartwatch

Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger also announced new smartwatches based on Android Wear 2.0. All three fashion labels announced their new products at Basel World this week.

Diesel’s smartwatch will reportedly have an AMOLED display, but its detailed specifications are not known as of now. According to AndroidHeadlines, the watch will cost $325 and will hit store shelves later this year.

The smartwatch is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset with a quad-core Cortex A7 32-bit CPU with a capacity of 1.2 GHz per core. It also has an Adreno 304 graphic chip with Open GL ES 3.0 support and includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon X5 LTE modem supporting LTE FDD, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1X, and GSM/EDGE, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE (low energy), and NFC connectivity.

The new Diesel On smartwatch is expected to be compatible with almost all Android phones with 4.3 Jelly Bean or above and iOS devices running iOS 9 or above. It is believed that the brand will try to differentiate itself in terms of appearance. We’re also hearing that customers may be able to customize their watch by choosing different straps made of various materials such as leather, denim, silicone and textile, notes AH.

Other big names in the race

Hugo Boss also released its first Android Wear smartwatch, which is made from carbon black IP stainless steel and features interchangeable straps. The smartwatch will have support for Android Pay and NFC, but there is no heart rate sensor. The watch dubbed the Touch will be released in August for $395.

The Tommy Hilfiger TH24, which will also run on Android Wear 2.0, will be powered by a Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, but it won’t have NFC support or a heart rate sensor. The TH24 will be priced at $299 and will be released towards the end of this year.

Diesel says that its watch is Moto-Inspired, meaning that the design is in reference to a motorcycle design. On the other hand, experts believe that Tommy Hilfiger’s smartwatch is simpler and made to fit the male wrist. However, compared to the Hugo Boss Smartwatch, the Tommy Hilfiger is slimmer.
