Honda unveiled its all-new 2016 Civic Sedan, which will be available for sale in the United States this fall. The Japanese automaker built the vehicle with a dynamic design– a more athletic look and sporty driving position. It is considered as the world’s best compact car.

The most ambitious remake of the Civic model

According to the Japanese automaker, the Civic Sedan is the first in a series of its new 10th generation Civic models, which also a coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type –R model for the U.S. market.

Honda said its 10th generation Civic is the most diverse and innovative line-up in the 43-year history of the vehicle model.

In a statement, John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor, emphasized that the 10th generation Civic is “quite simply the most ambitious remake” of the company.

“We are bringing more new technology and innovative thinking to Civic than ever before to establish a new benchmark for fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency, safety performance and refinement in the compact class,” said Mendel.

2016 Civic Sedan features

According to Honda, the 2016 Civic Sedan features two, new engines that are powerful and fuel- efficient engines combined with a sophisticated new body and chassis design. The vehicle delivers a responsive and sporty performance.

The Japanese automaker said that 2016 Civic Sedan and LX will be powered by a 2.0 liter, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC 4 cylinder. It is the most powerful base engine for the model combined with either a 6-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

On the other hand, the Civic Sedans in EX-T, EX-L trims, and Touring trims will be powered by 1.5 liters, direct-injected turbocharged 16-valve DOHC inline-4 engine combined with a unique CVT.

The vehicle is integrated with the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver assistance technologies (collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow).

The 2016 Civic Sedan also comes with smartphone integration, a new 7-inch display audio touchscreen to provide drivers with a more advanced intuitive, connected-car experience. The vehicle supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2016 Civic Sedan design

According to Honda, the 2016 Honda Civic is almost two inches wider and one inch lower than the current model. The vehicle’s wheelbase is also 1.2-inch longer.

The 2016 Civic Sedan is more compact with a sporty front overhang, longer, more aggressively sculpted hood and fastback-style tail. The vehicle also features a swept-back body lines, sharp and aggressive face and bulging wheel arches. Additionally, the vehicle comes with LED exterior lightings.

“The new Civic really is the embodiment of our global design team’s goal of styling a dramatic form that follows and speaks to the dynamic function of this ambitious redesign. The low and wide proportions, with the wheels, pushed to the outermost corners, emphasize the Civic’s dynamic handling prowess and give the car a crouched and muscular look, like a tiger ready to pounce,” said Jarad Hall, Senior Exterior Designer and project leader of the Civic Sedan, Honda R&D Americas.
