Apple Inc. (AAPL) Launches New iPod Touch Priced At $229

iPod Touch: Old vs. New

The first specification is that the new iPod touch will not have a high resolution rear facing iSight camera. This is a drawback actually as the users will not be able to use a good camera anymore. The iPod touch will, however, pose the front facing FaceTime camera.

The latest iPod will only have a 16 GB of storage, which in comparison to the old iPod is only half the capacity. The users will be able to use only the limited space for storage compared to the previous one.

The price is the final point on which the iPod differs from their older versions. The price of the latest iPod is kept at $229, which is less by $70 compared to the older iPod of $299. When the iPod was launched in the previous year it was priced at $299 for 32GB model and the 64GB version was available at $399.

There are other differences in the device as well, like there is no lanyard in the new design, and the latest iPod will be available in only grey and black colors as against the different colors in which the $299 priced iPod was available.

The information about the new iPod is only available on Apple Online Store as of now. The other features of the iPod are 4-inch retina display, dual core A5 chip, and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Ear Pods.

new iPod Price

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has resorted to a robust price slashing for its new iPod. There is no rear camera in the new iPod, and storage is only 16GB, which saves some cost for the iPhone maker. The cost of production of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has come down since the introduction of iPod in October 2012. Assuming $20 saving due to the camera and storage, Apple will absorb approximately $45 of the price cut in the form of lesser revenues.

Over the past decade, the iPod was a one of the most sought after media players but recently it has faced a decline in the sales and popularity, and there are little hopes that the iPod will be able to recover from that. However, the latest iPod is expected to give only a short term boost in sales.

After the reduction in price, the consumers will have more interest in considering an iPhone without a phone, which is the new iPod.
