Yahoo Turnaround Story To Be The Focus Of A New Book

Nicholas Carlson of Business Insider published a long article about Mayer about a month ago, and it has been pretty well-received so far. The article covers everything from Mayer’s childhood in Wisconsin to her work at Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and then finally up to her current position as CEO at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO).

The book Carlson is planning will apparently begin there and focus on attempts to turn things around at Yahoo, starting with the intervention of activist investor Dan Loeb and his firm Third Point. As Kara Swisher of All Things D notes, there is plenty to be told about that turnaround story, including numerous episodes that never made it into the newspapers or online media sites.

Of course the fight all began when it was revealed that former Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) CEO Scott Thompson has padded his resume. From there, it has been a very bumpy ride, and even now not everyone is convinced that the company is on the right track.

Details on Carlson’s Yahoo book

A press release states that the new book will be published by Business Plus, which is one of Grand Central Publishing’s imprints. Grand Central is one of Hachette Book Group’s divisions. In addition to Mayer and Loeb, other big personalities which will appear in Carlson’s book include David Karp, who cofounded Tumblr, and Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba Group.

Carlson said he has wanted to write a book for quite some time, but he only wanted to write one that would provide “a thrilling story.” He said a book about what has happened at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) certainly fits in that category.
