Yahoo Hires Jacqueline Reses as New Senior HR Executive

She will be responsible for leading the company’s human resources and talent acquisition as well as its global corporate and business development. Reses will come to Yahoo on Sept. 7 and will report to CEO Marissa Mayer.

Mayer said of the news via a corporate press release, “We are very excited to have Jackie join the Yahoo! team, leading our efforts around finding and retaining the best talent. Jackie brings two decades of uniquely applicable operational experience around structuring organizations, programs, and strategies to build world-class teams in media and technology. Her tremendous energy will serve our employees well, and we’re looking forward to her fresh perspectives.”

Reses brings recent experience from private equity investment arena. She led the U.S. media group at Apax Partners, where she built a team that focused on investing and driving value in media and technology businesses. Reses also oversaw the firm’s recruiting and training initiatives. Her additional responsibilities included serving on the board of directors or leading investments in Cengage Learning, Intelsat, Nelson Education, Hit Entertainment, and NEP Broadcasting.

As for additional executive experience, this includes a stint as CEO of iBuilding Inc. and seven years at Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS). Her responsibilities at the investment firm included working on numerous corporate transactions as well as supporting the firm’s mentoring, training and recruiting efforts, according to the Yahoo press release.

Reses had named as one of Crain’s New York Business’ “Most Influential Women,” and one of Dealmaker magazine’s “Dealmakers of the Year.”

On Wednesday, Reses said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Yahoo! family. As Yahoo! looks to develop and define its future, hiring, managing and incentivizing talent will be of key importance. Building on my background, we will also do a rigorous assessment of corporate development and partnership opportunities.”

The naming of Reses to Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)’s executive ranks comes as the company has undergone a lot of turnover during the last year. With the exit of former CEO Carol Bartz last year, Scott Thompson joined the company as CEO in 2012 but it was a short tenure as he soon resigned when education errors had been found in his resume.

Mayer, a former Google executive, is now running the show at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) and she’s slowly building her own team to move her strategy forward.

Reses’ hire follows last week’s news that announced Kathy Savitt as Yahoo’s new chief marketing officer. Savitt had previously been the founder and CEO of photo-sharing site Lockerz. Her hiring represented Mayer’s most senior hire since taking over the reins.
