It isn’t so strange to meet a new lover on a holiday, but one UK woman claims she has begun a serious relationship with a ghost she met while on vacation.
The woman, Amethyst Realm, claims she hasn’t had sex with a flesh and blood human man in 12 years. She says after ending her relationship with her fiance 12 years ago, she began sleeping with ghosts and has had 20 spirit lovers since.
Although she can’t physically see or hold her phantom lovers, she claims she always achieves orgasm when they have sex, unlike her previous experiences with human men. In fact, she says her relationships with ghost men are so satisfying, she has sworn off human relationships forever.
How it All Began
While Amethyst claims that she has always had extrasensory gifts, including the ability to communicate with ghosts, she did not always know that a sexual relationship with them was an option.
She claims after moving into a new home with her then fiance, she sensed the presence of a ghost and decided to seduce it. She insists that the seduction was ultimately successful and the ghost fell in love with her. Her fiance discovered the infidelity after the ghost appeared in physical form to him, hoping to break up their relationship. Her fiance saw the form of a man through their bedroom window when he was coming home from work and confronted her about it. She admitted that she was having a relationship with a ghost.
Amethyst, who describes herself as a “spiritual guidance counselor” believes she is in a serious relationship with one phantom gentleman. They met when she was on vacation in Australia.
“One day, while I was walking through the bush, enjoying nature, I suddenly felt this incredible energy. I knew a new lover had arrived.”
After beginning their relationship in Australia, the ghost decided to follow her back to her home in the UK. According to Amethyst, they have been together for six months now and are planning to take things to the next level.
“It’s pretty serious. In fact, we’ve even been thinking about having a ghost baby. I know that sounds crazy but I’ve been looking into it and I don’t think it’s totally out of the question.”
Although she admits that most ghost pregnancies do not go full term, “I’m sure there’s a way around that – I just haven’t worked it out yet,” she said.
Amethyst also believes that “phantom pregnancies” are actually ghost fetuses, the inevitable result of sex with a ghost.
What’s Going on Here?
As a relationship expert and matchmaker (not a mental health professional) there seems to be a clear pattern in Amethyst’s story. For one, it looks like she turned to “ghost lovers” after her relationship with her fiance fell apart.
People tend to underestimate how emotionally scarring a breakup can be. Actually, it often requires years of therapy and personal development to recover from a bad breakup. The sad truth is that most people aren’t actually willing to do the difficult work required to heal and prepare for a new relationships. It isn’t unusual for someone to avoid a relationship for years or even decades after a breakup or divorce.
I’ve seen clients use any means necessary to avoid a relationship, despite outwardly professing their desire to date, but I have to admit I’ve never seen someone claim to prefer ghosts to humans. The fact that Amethyst claims ghosts are better than human men, may point to some serious trauma surrounding her relationships with men. Ghosts are safe and can never hurt you, because they aren’t actually real. What is very real though is the fear of intimacy that pervades our culture, especially among those with relationship trauma.
Spiritual Guidance Counselor?
Another aspect of her story that stands out, is Amethyst’s profession. She describes herself as a spiritual guidance counselor. While there are thousands of properly trained and mentally sound spiritual practitioners out there, there are also thousands and thousands who are not only unstable, but use their spiritual practices as justification for maintaining their unhealthy behaviors. With few standards and regulations, nearly anyone could claim to be a spiritual teacher.
With such a job title, one would presume Amethyst is giving advice and guidance to her clients, which is deeply disturbing. In one of her interviews, she argued that phantom pregnancies are actually the result of having been impregnated by a ghost. In reality, phantom pregnancy, or false pregnancy, can be a very serious condition that requires medical attention.
A false pregnancy is when a woman begins to show symptoms of pregnancy without actually being pregnant. Often times, these symptoms appear alongside delusions or psychotic behavior. Doctors believe false pregnancies may be caused by problems with the body’s endocrine system. In other case, phantom pregnancy can be a purely psychological phenomenon, when women become so desperate for a child they develop the delusion of pregnancy. In both cases, medical or psychiatric attention is needed, not spiritual counseling about ghost sex.
Vulnerable people seeking healing often turn to those presenting themselves as spiritual healers, only to spend thousands of dollars and emerge more damaged than before. The amount of unethical, unstable, and poorly trained spiritual practitioners out there are at epidemic proportions.
Here’s a distressing example. Remember Barney, the beloved children’s show from the 1990s? The man who played Barney is now a self declared tantric healer. Tantra is an ancient spiritual practice that can sometimes involve sexual stimulation. Sex is not the center of the practice, but for sleazy wannabe gurus in the West, it has become synonymous with using your “spirituality” to justify casual sex.
David Joyner, the man who played Barney, now claims to be a tantric sex guru. He recruits women on Tinder, then charges them $350 dollars to have sex with him in order to remove their “spiritual blockages.” The session includes a ritual bath and chakra cleansing. He explained to Vice News, “When the lingam [penis] and the yoni [vagina] meet, there’s a certain energy that takes place that hands on the body alone cannot create.” He maintains a client roster of 30 women, whom he has sex with two to four times a week.
Not only does Joyner insist on penetrative sex, he also demands that the sex be unprotected, as condoms block his spiritual energy. You may be inclined to roll your eyes at Joyner, but his case is not unique. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people like him spreading bad advice, HPV, and ultimately trauma under the guise of sexual or emotional healing. People like Amethyst, Joyner, and their clients need real help, not poorly developed, self-serving “spiritual” mumbo jumbo.
