Facing Wizards Unite GPS Sync Issue? You’re Not Alone

Updated on

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite may not be as popular as Pokemon Go was after its launch, but it is slowly starting to catch on with players. However, continuous issues have marred the playing experience of many, and they continue to do so even two months after the game’s release. The Wizards Unite GPS sync issue is the latest problem that seems to be troubling players.

Complaints about the Wizards Unite GPS sync issue have been pouring in for the last two days. Users have raised the issue on the official Wizards Unite Community, saying that even though their GPS works fine and their movements appear in the app, their in-game avatar remains still, according to tech site PiunikaWeb.

“I have the highest GPS accuracy option set on the device, and the map of the device is showing the correct location. The confoundables do pop up on the map where I am standing in real life, but the Avatar almost always is somewhere behind,” one user said on the community forum.

Players are reporting other issues with the GPS as well. Many report that their Avatar stands still for a minute while they’re moving or pops up randomly near their current location. Many Samsung phone owners seem to believe there might be an issue in the way game interacts with their phones.

“I think this is an issues with how HPWU interacts with Samsung phones, as there are no issues with Iphones or with Pokemon Go,” one user said.

Some also believe the issue could be due to the game “not being functional at high speed.” Affected users say they have tried the usual troubleshooting tricks, such as re-installing the game, but nothing seems to be helping.

To overcome the Wizards Unite GPS sync issue, many are suggesting the use of the GPS Status app. Those suggesting this solution believe it improves the GPS accuracy for many apps, including Pokemon Go and Wizards Unite.

“I know this isn’t the ultimate answer, but it might help out a bit. There’s an app called ‘GPS Status’ – there’s a free version and a paid version. The free version should be fine for what you need,” one player said on the community forum.

As of now, there are no comments from Niantic on the Wizards Unite GPS sync issue. Hopefully a fix for this will arrive soon. Other issues that have been troubling players are problems with Ministry ID, Assignments & Achievements, and Downloading assets, persistent red dot errors, and more.

In other Niantic news, the game developer recently revealed more details about the first Wizards Unite fan fest. In a blog post last week, the developer confirmed four different dragons. According to the infographic from the company, the four dragons are the Antipodean Opaleye, Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green and Peruvian Vipertooth.

At the event, players will get the opportunity to catch all four dragons. However, after the event, the dragons will go back to being region-exclusive. At the Wizards Unite panel in San Diego, the developer also teased new dragon-related characters. For now, no details are known about these characters. Hopefully more details will be out in the coming days.

Further, there will be a real-life Threat Clock at the event. Many believe the clock will be used to signal the completion of certain tasks or the arrival of dragons. There will also be themed lounges where players can rest and charge their phones.

“Attendees will need to keep an eye on the Threat Clock throughout the day and be prepared to jump into action should the hands reach a state of emergency,” Niantic says.

In the blog post, Niantic also said the Wizarding World Artifacts will be scattered around the park, along with Dragon Eggs and Acromantula Eggs. Further, the park will be adorned with Landmark flags to help players find Foundables.

Niantic has partnered with AT&T and Simon for the event. Players visiting the AT&T tent will be entitled to several exclusive offers and items, such as a picture with a giant inflatable Niffler and other themed activities. At Simon’s booth, players will get a $10 Simon gift card, which will be redeemable at any Simon location in the Indianapolis area. Players will also get a chance to enter a drawing for a $10,000 shopping spree.

The Wizards Unite fan fest is a two-day event scheduled on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. For those who are unable to attend the event, Niantic is teasing Global activities. There are no details on what these activities could be, but based on the activities offered at the time of the Pokémon Go fest, we can expect an immersive player experience.
