White Xbox One Coming Soon

Updated on

In a post that has since been removed, Micromania revealed that the white Xbox One would be available for €399.99, bundled with the platform specific Sunset Overdrive game.

Whispers of the white Xbox One’s release have been heard for some time now. Persistent rumours, as well as Micromania’s history of accurately revealing leaks of new releases, have industry insiders predicting that the public will soon be able to get their hands on the new model.

Growing interest

This would be the first time that the white Xbox one has been available for general retail, having only been given to Microsoft employees last year. The news of its existence sparked excitement among fans calling for its release to the public.

The levels of interest in the white Xbox One can be gauged by the fact that shortly after their limited release to employees, ten examples appeared on eBay for more than $3500 each.

A competitive market

The white Xbox One enters into competition with the Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) Playstation 4, which is also soon to be released in white alongside the Destiny game, as well as the Nintendo Wii. Recent reports have stated that the PlayStation 4 is outselling the Xbox One, and Microsoft are presumably hoping to gain the advantage by releasing the white Xbox One.

Despite both companies sending out triumphant press releases trumpeting their record breaking sales shortly after release, commentators claim that by using eBay prices as a measure it can be concluded that the PlayStation 4 is outselling the Xbox One. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will be hoping that this situation changes with the release of the new white Xbox One.

Insiders are predicting an announcement regarding the white Xbox One at the Gamescom conference, which is taking place in Cologne, Germany from 13-17 August 2014. It would be hard to see Microsoft holding off on an official announcement with the growing excitement around the white Xbox One and its potential to redress the balance in its struggle for market share.
