U2 Is Not Coming To iPhone 6 Event [UPDATED]

UPDATE 11:34 AM EST: The spokeswoman for the band said, “They are not releasing their album on the iPhone, and they are not performing at the IPhone launch.”

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Sept. 9 event is expected to be a big one, not only because of the iPhone 6, but also due to the rumored release of U2’s upcoming album at the event. According to the Sunday Times, Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin was closed by a rock band for shooting a video that is expected to be in ties with Apple’s media event.

Suspense over Apple and U2 connection

A hazy image of the video was revealed by music promoter Stephen Browne on Twitter, saying, “Looks like @U2 new album maybe preloaded on to iPhone 6. The focus of the ‘video’ on the bridge last week was a phone.”

Share Tibken from CNET added to the rumors on Twitter, saying that U2 frontman Bono might make a special appearance at the Sept. 9 event and perform. It is widely anticipated that the two-story setup by the company outside the Flint Center is a performance stage for the show.

Bono was good friends with late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and has cordial relations with the current SVP of design, John Ivy. He has also worked with the company to fight AIDS through the (RED) initiative, and in June, the company raised around $75 million worldwide by selling (RED) branded iPods and accessories. In 2013, Ive partnered with Marc Newson to auction (RED) themed items, with Apple selling a Mac Pro for $977,000.

Fans already wait in line for iPhone 6

Apple’s iPhone is known for having a crazy fan base, and the expected iPhone 6 is no exception. An Apple store at 5th Avenue in New York City already has a line of fans. A photo from journalist Eli Blumenthal said that the four people who are standing in line for the phone hardly care how the device looks; they just want to buy it.

The next iPhone will probably be unveiled on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and may go on sale ten days later. This means that before getting their hands on the iPhone 6, these fans will have to wait for about 17 days in line. Also for users who want to buy the larger display phone instead of the 4.7-inch model, then the wait could be even longer.

It seems apparent that nothing natural or supernatural is going to deter the spirit of these crazy iPhone fans from camping in front of the Apple store.
