Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) was flooded with messages of celebrities paying tribute to legendary comedic actor Robin Williams. The 63-year-old was found unconscious at his home in California and later died.
A remarkable career
A report from Associated Press said that the Marin County Sheriff’s Office declared Williams dead. The preliminary investigation into the cause of death indicated a suicide due to asphyxia. The actor’s representative, Mara Buxbaum, told the press that Williams has been suffering from severe depression in recent years.
The Oscar winning actor tasted success as the alien Mork in the late 70s TV sitcom Mork and Mindy. He then reached an unparalleled success through films like Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society and Mrs. Doubtfire. Last fall, Williams made his comeback through the television comedy The Crazy Ones, which lasted for only one season.

U.S. President Barack Obama took to Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) to express his grief and said that Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was unique as he entered into the lives of people as an alien but ended up touching every element of the human spirit. Mork & Mindy co-star Pam Dawber was also in a state of shock and said that she is devastated by the news. Well-known Hollywood director Steven Spielberg also issued a statement on Williams’ death.
“Robin was a lightning storm of comic genius and our laughter was the thunder that sustained him. He was a pal and I can’t believe he’s gone,’’ saidSpielberg.
Actor-comedian Chevy Chase said that he and Robin were great friends and suffered from the same disease known as depression. He said that ending up like this was never expected from Williams. Chase expressed his blessings on the grieving family and said that it was hard to believe. “What a wonderful man / boy and what a tremendous talent in the most important art of any time – comedy! I loved him,’’ he said.
Actor Kevin Spacey wrote on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) that Williams made the world laugh and think. Spacey said that he will miss Williams beyond measure. Ellen DeGenres said Williams brought great laughter and joy into the world and that he will always be remembered as a legend.
