Twitter Inc Tests Suggestion Feature ‘You May Also Like’

Updated on

Twitter is making efforts to get people spend more time on its site and therefore is trying to make the platform more attractive. The changes to the site are being made rapidly, and the latest one is the launch of a new feature that is said to be under testing for now.

Twitter adds one more feature

Individual tweet pages might very soon have a new column named “You May Also Like,” which is in yhe experimental stage now and available to selective users, as informed to VentureBeat by a spokesperson at Twitter. The feature gives a list of five related tweets to users, which they may also like. The feature was noticed for the first time around a month ago and has now been expanded to more users, says the report.

For viewing more related tweets, all a user needs to do is click on the “View more” button below the original five tweets at the bottom of the column. This leads to the opening up of 10 additional tweets. The user will then need to scroll down to view all the tweets. Viewing all of them in one go is possible if the user makes the column wider, but then this would deprive the user of comfortably viewing the main tweet, hence defeating the real purpose of the social networking site, says the report. Also the feature will help new and inexperienced users find their way to the site by going through different tweets.

Proper web implementation

When the feature will be made to everyone has yet to be seen. If the company chooses to make it a universal feature, it should focus first on factors like implementing it in a better manner on the web. The feature works better on mobile as the user simply needs to swipe left to view suggested tweets, says the report.

Separately, for users who visit the platform but are not registered, the company plans to woo them with a new home page, which is a change from the earlier simple log-in page with a background photo. Twitter, which has 288 million active users, believes 500 million people visit the site each month without being logged in.
