Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is setting up its new office in Indonesia, the country with massive social media lovers. The new office of the company will be its second in Southeast Asia and fifth in the Asia-Pacific region. Adam Bain, Twitter Inc’s Global President of Revenue and Partnerships said that the office will open in the next six months in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia.
Indonesia a potential market for Twitter
Indonesia is popularly known as the ‘world social media capital’ where the micro-blogging site has an active user base of 20 million. According to Bain, the country has a lot of potential to offer. “You see the size of the audience there and how they’re using Twitter, and it’s super-invigorating,” he told the Wall Street Journal.
In the company’s new office core segments will be sales and business development as Twitter is striving hard to capitalize the vast user base. Almost three-fourth of its users are based outside the United States, but the company earns chunk of its revenue from the United States. This explains best why the company needs to concentrate on the emerging markets.
Bain said that as of now he will not go into the details on the staff hired in Jakarta, but added that it will be a cross-functional office for the company “in terms of the roles of the people inside the office and the different specialties that the team has.”
Facebook already has office in Indonesia
The Micro-blogging site is seeking to ramp up its users and advertising revenue abroad, especially in the emerging markets such as Indonesia. Although, the company does not offer segmented results for the countries, analysts maintain that Indonesia is one of the largest markets with a population of 240 million out of which half are below the age of 30. The most recent buzz in Indonesia was the presidential election, which was discussed over Twitter approximately 95 million times from the start of the year, according to a report from the company.
In the second-quarter, the company’s revenue doubled to $312.2 million, but it is still running into loss. A few days back, Twitter announced its advertising program to 12 emerging markets including Eastern and Central Europe. In March this year, rival Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) opened an office in Jakarta.
