How Could Trump Be Shut Down On Twitter?

Twitter is said to have played an important role in Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. Presidential race. Trump, a 70-year-old man who tweets voraciously, has received a lot of criticism for all that tweeting. Though he has a large number of fans and followers, those who dislike him want him to shut up. Many are demanding that his account be blocked, but so far, it’s not happened.

If he breaks Twitter rules

Jen Golbeck, a professor at the University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies, has come up with two suggestions that could stop Trump from tweeting. But they’re a bit unrealistic.

Golbeck told NBC News, “You get a little edginess, then you have Trump — who is on a different planet in terms of how he uses Twitter. He has very little delay from a thought in his brain to tweeting on the internet.”

Trump is going to be the 45th President of the United States, but this doesn’t mean that he will be granted special protection by the micro-blogging site. He doesn’t have the right to violate any of Twitter’s rules on violent threats, hateful conduct and harassment.

When asked if the rules will be enforced with Trump, a Twitter representative said the rules are applicable to all accounts, including verified ones, according to NBC News. So if Trump gets a little too feisty with his tweets, then the micro-blogging site might subject even the President to a timeout.

Twitter’s shutdown will shut up Trump

Another option is if someone (who probably hates Trump) buys Twitter and shuts it down. Currently, the micro-blogging site is worth $15 billion, while Trump’s estimated net worth is a few billion dollars. Therefore, he cannot buy it. But there are large numbers of billionaires who can afford to buy it, notes NBC News.

“That’s assuming he would allow that to happen with his new great powers. I’d expect him to go to Facebook first, but I expect he would explore for other platforms that give him the quick and easy way of communicating. He could really bring a huge audience to a new platform,” professor said

Both scenarios are highly unlikely. But don’t be disappointed. Users who are truly bothered by what they are seeing from Trump on Twitter can simply put him off (at least on Twitter) with just one click: “block.” If you have any other ways you think could shut up Trump on Twitter, do share with us.
