Are You Sleeping Less? Somnology Can Help You

Updated on

According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, more than 40 million Americans have trouble getting a good night’s sleep. And the lack of quality sleep could lead to a variety of health issues. If you are one of those 40 million, a company called Somnology may help you get better quality sleep. Somnology has developed a sleep-tracking wearable device, Plex Sleep Screener.

A detailed snapshot of your sleep and breathing patterns

Dr. Melissa Lim, founder and Chief Medical Officer of Somnology, said in a statement that Plex Sleep Screener uses “medical-grade sensors” that monitor your breathing patterns, pulse, and oxygen levels during sleep. It gives you a detailed snapshot of your sleep and breathing patterns that you can share with your sleep physician.

It means both your doctor and you’ll have access to real-time information about your sleep-related issues. The Plex Screen Screener is accompanied by the MobileSleepDoc app that is designed by actual sleep experts. It has several resources and features for people who have trouble sleeping. The app includes questionnaires that screen for possible sleep disorders.

The MobileSleepDoc app stores information about your sleep habits in its “sleep logs” and provides you feedback in the form of graphs. That way you can see whether you are making progress in addressing your sleep issues. This information can also be used to make lifestyle changes. Dr. Lim says the app can also be used in conjunction with advice and guidance from your physician.

Somnology expects to launch the product later this year

Monitoring your sleep patterns is important because we don’t sleep the same way every night. If you are making changes to your bedtime routine, or trying a program such as side-sleeping or weight loss, you could track improvements in sleep efficiency and continuity.

Somnology is expected to launch the Plex Sleep Scanner by the end of this year. The startup has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $250,000. The funds will be used for manufacturing and design refinements, and software engineering. The product is priced at $259 for early birds.
